Why Donate in Shrawan?

Published on: August 5, 2025

Shrawan (also spelled Sawan) is a very special and holy month in the Hindu calendar. It usually comes in July or August. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most important gods in Hinduism.

People do many spiritual activities in Shrawan—like fasting, praying, and donating. But why is donating so important during this month? Let’s find out.

A Month Full of Blessings

In Hindu belief, donating in Shrawan brings more blessings than donating at other times of the year. It is said that when you give with a pure heart in this month, God gives you back much more.

Donating also helps us become kinder and more thoughtful. It’s a way to show love to both God and the people around us.

What Can You Donate?

Here are some simple things you can donate during Shrawan:

  • Food – Give food to poor people, sadhus (holy men), or cows.

  • Water or Juice – It’s hot during this time, so sharing cool drinks helps a lot.

  • Clothes – You can give clean clothes to people who need them.

  • Offerings to Lord Shiva – Milk, honey, fruits, and bilva leaves are offered in temples.

Why Mondays Are Special

Every Monday in Shrawan is called Shravan Somvar. These days are extra special for Lord Shiva. Many people fast on Mondays and go to Shiva temples. Donating on these days is believed to bring peace, happiness, and success.

Helping Others, Healing Yourself

When we donate, we’re not just helping others—we're also healing our own hearts. Giving makes us feel happy inside. It also removes bad karma and brings good luck.
