What Ravi Shekhar does?
Published on: July 11, 2025
In a world that often moves too fast to notice silent warriors, some stories pause us in our tracks—stories like that of Ravi Shekhar, a man who literally came back from the edge of death to dedicate his life to serving others.
It all began in 2015, a year that Ravi will never forget. Just an ordinary man with a regular life, Ravi was suddenly struck by a devastating health crisis—both his kidneys failed, and he slipped into a coma that lasted 7–8 months. It was a long, uncertain journey between life and death. But sometimes, it’s during the darkest moments that a spark ignites within.
When Ravi woke up, it wasn't just his body that had changed. His entire perspective on life had transformed. Lying in a hospital bed for months, watching others suffer, watching families struggle to afford treatments or even food, Ravi came face-to-face with a painful truth: many people die not because of disease alone, but because they can't afford dignity in suffering. He knew then—if life had given him a second chance, he would spend it with purpose.
Nothing Stop him to Serve for Dhanbad
By 2017, Ravi turned that purpose into action. He registered a trust and founded the Roti Bank Youth Club, Dhanbad. His mission? To ensure that no one around him suffers in silence the way he did.
It began with blood donation drives. Having experienced firsthand how critical and scarce blood can be during emergencies, he made it his mission to build networks and organize regular blood donation campaigns.
Then came 2020, and with it the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world shut down, hospitals overflowed, and people lost access to basic necessities. But Ravi didn’t stop—not even for a second.
Despite being on regular dialysis, he stepped out every day, delivering rations, oxygen cylinders, and essential supplies to families who couldn’t afford them. For those struggling to breathe, he became their oxygen. For those going to sleep hungry, he became their hope.
What is Love?
His work didn’t end with the pandemic. Ravi also reached out to senior citizens—13 to 15 of them, every month—personally delivering rations, ensuring they felt remembered and cared for.
Perhaps one of the most heart-touching aspects of his work is his support for brides from underprivileged families. Ravi has helped organize and support 213 weddings, ensuring these women begin a new chapter in life with dignity and celebration.
“What if I die with nothing but an unpurposive life?”
That question haunted Ravi Shekhar when he awoke from his coma. Today, his life is the answer. He didn’t just survive—he chose to live meaningfully. He turned pain into purpose, suffering into service, and silence into strength.
Ravi's journey reminds us that it’s not the years in our life that count—but the life in our years.
If you're ever in Dhanbad and hear of a man tirelessly serving others while quietly battling his own health challenges, you’ve met Ravi Shekhar—a hero not defined by what he went through, but by what he did with it.
